Depth of Field (DOF) refers to the extent of the scene in a photograph that appears acceptably sharp. It is an essential element in photographic composition, particularly in nature photography, where the artist's choice regarding DOF can significantly influence the image's impact.

This Depth of Field calculator serves as a valuable tool for photographers seeking to quantify various aspects of DOF, including:<ul>
<li>Near limit of acceptable sharpness</li>
<li>Far limit of acceptable sharpness</li>
<li>Total depth of field length</li>
<li>Hyperfocal distance</li>
</ul>

The calculations are based on several key parameters:<ul>
<li>Camera model or Circle of Confusion</li>
<li>Lens focal length (e.g., 50mm)</li>
<li>Aperture / f-stop (e.g., f/1.8)</li>
<li>Distance to subject</li>
</ul>

Depth of Field: This term describes the area in front of and behind the point of critical focus at the subject distance that appears reasonably sharp. Thus, it can be viewed as a region within which the subject is deemed to be in adequate focus.

Hyperfocal Distance: This is defined as the closest distance to a subject at which a photographer can focus while ensuring that the depth of field extends to infinity, given specific camera settings, including aperture and focal length.
